Discovered Apps

Finding Popular Apps

  1. Open the Discovery Module
    1. Click on the Discovery menu item in the WitnessAI console. In the Discovery section, select the Discovered Apps view. This page lists all the applications WitnessAI has identified in your environment.

  1. Select a Time Range: At the top of the Discovered Apps view, find the time range filter (it may default to something like "Last 7 days"). Click this date filter and choose the period you want to analyze (for example, Last 30 days or Last 90 days). This ensures you’re looking at app usage within a specific timeframe, so “most popular” refers to that period.

  1. You can filter by Data Criticality and Category.

  1. And easily block Apps directly in the Table View by clicking the Block button (1) in the Actions column. When you block an App you’ll see a confirmation on the screen (2).
    1. Clicking the Unblock button will reverse this action.

View App Details

Once you have the list of Apps, you can learn more about any App on the list.
Click on an App’s name to open its Detail Panel. The detail panel provides additional information such as a description of the App, its category, the first time it was seen in your environment, its risk rating, and the number of users over the selected time period.

The Overview tab lists the headquarters of the vendor, and an extensive list of Supply Chain data, that the App depends on for data, support, and hosting.
The Users tab displays which specific users have accessed the App during the chosen time range, helping you assess its popularity and importance to the organization.
The Security tab displays a host of information to understand the App’s Compliance Certifications, Security Practices, and Authentication Details. Reviewing these details will help you assess any risks associated with the App, and if it meets your organizations security policy and compliance requirements.
